TechSoup vs. Percent
Percent is the new GFN validation partner.
Before you’re about to register your organization under Google for Nonprofit you should be aware of Google’s slight changes to the application process. If you have any previous experience with applying to this program, you must know that you’re required to undergo a verification process. During this process, Google verifies over a third-party organization whether you’re a legally registered nonprofit. What has changed you’re asking? We’re about to expose it to you.
In the past if you’ve wished to verify your nonprofit you came across the organization called TechSoup, a third-party partner of Google that validated all nonprofit organizations under Google for Nonprofits. During the registration process, you essentially got into a part where Google asked you to enter your TechSoup validation token. Within this stage, you were presented a link that would redirect you to TechSoup’s website where you needed to create an account and follow the instructions to get validated. Once you accomplished all the steps on their website and they’ve taken the time to review the requirements and review your organization, they will present you with a TechSoup token to use on Google for nonprofits.
As per new terms, however, your nonprofit status is verified by the organization called Percent. Percent builds technology that enables nonprofits to reach out to people across the world and collect funds to carry out their mission. Applying to various programs may be nerve-wracking and requires great effort to accomplish it. With Percent, the whole process gets a tiny bit easier. You’re about to encounter zero external links so you can smoothly apply to get validated while applying for the program itself.
What does Percent check?
- whether you qualify as a nonprofit in the local jurisdiction
- whether the applicant is a representative of the nonprofit
- your compliance status
- and your mission, whether it meets the eligibility criteria.
What will I need to get started?
- Your organization’s EIN
- Your organization’s physical address
- Your organization’s online contact information
- Your organization’s website address
- Your organization’s mission statement
Once you submit the application, Percent will reach out to you for additional information and documentation to verify your organization so be on the watch for e-mails from @poweredbypercent.com email address, and don’t forget to check your spam folder too! The review process takes usually 2-14 business days and you can check the status of your application on your account page anytime.
In our experience, the Percent validation process is simpler and smoother than Techsoup validation. There is, however, one significant difference. Percent application needs to be submitted from an email that clearly belongs to the applying organization. That means that the organization XYZ should apply from the email name@xyz.com. If the application is sent from another email, it will likely get disapproved.
Although the Percent verification process makes your life easier, we strongly recommend setting up your TechSoup account as well. Don’t pass on the great deals and discounts that await there! If the application process caused you any trouble, don’t hesitate to Contact us!
